Travel Updates

Uzbekistan is easier to travel than many expect. Distances between the main cities are manageable, rail has improved dramatically and domestic flights fill the longer gaps. The skill is matching each leg to the right mode.

High-speed rail

High-speed trains are the backbone of most itineraries. They link Tashkent, Samarkand and Bukhara, and since 2026 a high-speed service also reaches Khiva via Urgench. Trains are clean, punctual and comfortable, with business-class seats on most services.

  • Tashkent to Samarkand takes a little over two hours.
  • Bukhara is roughly two more hours beyond Samarkand.
  • Seats are released in advance and sell out quickly in spring and autumn.

Slower conventional trains still run on many routes and are useful when high-speed seats are full or for overnight journeys.

Domestic flights

Flights save time on the longest legs, especially between Tashkent and Urgench for Khiva, and to Termez or Nukus. Schedules change by season, so we confirm them close to the program dates. Baggage allowances on domestic routes can be stricter than on international flights, which matters for groups.

Private cars and coaches

Road transfers fill the gaps rail cannot: Samarkand to Shakhrisabz over the mountain pass, the Fergana Valley, desert yurt camps and village visits. We work with a trusted partner fleet of cars, minivans and coaches, with drivers who know the routes.

Operator tip: the best itineraries mix modes. Rail between the big cities, one domestic flight to save a long day, and private vehicles for side trips.

In the cities

  • Tashkent Metro: cheap, fast and famous for its decorated Soviet-era stations. Worth a short ride even if you do not need it.
  • Ride-hailing apps: widely used in larger cities and inexpensive.
  • Walking: the old towns of Bukhara and Khiva are compact and best explored on foot.

How we plan transport

We check rail availability before quoting, hold backup options for peak dates, and brief every driver on the group's schedule. Send us your route and dates, and we will propose the most comfortable combination.
