Empty squares, low prices and ski slopes an hour from Tashkent. Why December to February is Uzbekistan's most underrated season.

Most travellers come to Uzbekistan in spring or autumn. Those who come in winter discover a different country: quiet monuments, crisp clear days and the warmth of teahouses after a cold walk.
From December to February, days are short and temperatures often drop below zero at night, especially in Khiva and the desert west. Daytime can be bright and sunny, and snow occasionally covers Samarkand's domes for a day or two. The main sights stay open all year.
The mountains east of Tashkent offer skiing and snow scenery about an hour or two from the city. Resorts in the Chimgan area, including Amirsoy, have modern lifts and hotels and suit both skiers and travellers who simply want a day in the snow.
A winter city break works well: two nights in Tashkent, two in Samarkand and a day in the mountains, all connected by train and short transfers.
Winter is ideal for culture-focused travellers, photographers, repeat visitors and anyone who values space over warm weather. Ask us for a winter program, and we will plan it around daylight and comfort.
